7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location
Education Building at Ivy Creek Natural Area
Topic: Rails and Rail Adventures
Speaker: Stauffer Miller
The recent walk to Bentivar Farm that Dave Shoch and Pete Myers led produced my very first Sora; so for me, at least, this month’s topic could not be more timely. Stauffer Miller, who last spoke to the Club about his birding adventures in the wilds of Mexico, will be shedding some light on one of the most reclusive of all bird families.
Swamps are admittedly hard to love for those averse to wet feet and mosquitoes, but come prepared to learn to appreciate one of the subtler denizens of the bird world. Based on trips to the American tropics—Stauffer will be more specific—and just last year to Louisiana, the talk will take us deeper into a world that is inhabited by the creatures on those little-visited pages in the guidebooks. Minding their own business in their damp little corners of the bird universe, rails get less ink than others, but they seem fine with that. Stauffer will be the perfect guide for this very private tour. We can take a look and then quietly leave them in peace.
Addendum from our Hospitality Chair, Patty Kalbfleisch…
The annual MBC Christmas/Holiday party will be held following Stauffer’s talk. Please do NOT bring any food for the party. I will provide all the holiday treats and beverages. We will have the annual raffle as usual, so do bring an inexpensive bird-related item if you wish. Gently used bird-related items are welcome. Thanks very much.
Please Note: December 5th’s pre-meeting dinner (see below) is cancelled for this month only. Stauffer is unable to be there, but will definitely be at the 7pm meeting for his scheduled presentation on Rails.
