Our next monthly meeting will take place on October 7 at 7pm via Zoom. Our speaker, Brad Kreps, leads The Nature Conservancy’s Clinch Valley Program in southwest Virginia and northeastern Tennessee that has conserved nearly 200,000 acres of critical natural habitat. Successful conservation efforts include:
- the 153,000-acre Cumberland Forest- Highlands property, Virginia’s largest open space easement,
- a string of nature preserves and river access points along the Clinch and Powell Rivers,
- more than 22,000 acres of working forests along Clinch Mountain,
- lands the Conservancy has transferred to the Commonwealth of Virginia to create the Channels State Forest, Pinnacle State Natural Area, and Cedars State Natural Area.
Brad and his team work with a wide variety of partners- including agencies, local communities, government leaders, businesses, and industry to protect the health of the Clinch Valley and Central Appalachian region for people and nature. He holds degrees from James Madison University and the University of Tennessee.
