PVBC Meeting Minutes: October 1, 2025

Myrlene Staten, President, opened the meeting promptly at 7:00 p.m., on Zoom, with 27 people in attendance.
Advocacy Group
Club Member Susan Kirk talked with the Club about an optional advocacy group that members can join. Susan will send information to members who join this group regarding opportunities to advocate in various ways to further conservation goals that protect birds and their habitat.

Membership Update
Scott Connuck provided a membership update. The Club has had 140 persons join for the first time or renew their membership this fiscal year through September 20, 2025.

First Saturday Bird Walk at Ivy Creek Natural Area, on Saturday, October 4th, at 7:30 a.m. Meet in the main parking lot at 1780 Earlysville Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Fortune’s Cove Preserve, on Saturday, October 5th, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Meet at Fortune’s Cove’s Preserve, Fortune’s Cove Preserve Lane, Lovingston, VA 22949.
Plain Dealing Farm, on Saturday, October 18th, at 8 a.m. Meet at 906 Plain Dealing Farm, Scottsville, VA 24590. Weather reschedule date is Sunday, October 19th.
Featured Presentation
Program Chair, Joanna Vondrasek, introduced Dr. Ethan Clotfelter, who is the Rufus Tyler Lincoln Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies at Amherst College. Dr. Clotfelter presented on Birds in a Warming World.
After Dr. Clotfelter’s presentation, the meeting was adjourned.
The Club meets next on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., by Zoom. Dan Mennill, Ph.D., of the University of Windsor, will present on “Eavesdropping on Missing Migrants: Night Flight Calls and Bioacoustics Studies of Bird Migration.
