Field Trip Leader:
Join PVBC trip leader Scott Connuck for a birding field trip at Pine Knot, Teddy Roosevelt’s rustic Presidential retreat in southern Albemarle County. The property features forests, agricultural fields, a stream, and wooded edges. A variety of songbirds, raptors and woodpeckers are expected, including (fingers crossed) Red-headed Woodpeckers. At 9 AM, we will receive a tour of the house itself. Afterwards, birders can return to the car or extend the walk with Scott.
- This trip is free and open to all without registration.
- Meet at 711 Coles Rolling Rd, Scottsville, VA 24590. Go through the black gate ~300 ft until you find the parking lot field. Note some directions may take you to a slightly different location. The coordinates of the parking lot are here (37°51’08.1″N 78°31’19.7″W).
- The walk will traverse roughly 1.5 miles over slightly hilly and sometimes uneven terrain. The route can be very muddy, please wear appropriate footwear. Ticks are common on this property.
- Carpooling is encouraged.
- No weather reschedule date has been set. Contact [email protected] for questions, including if the weather looks iffy.
- There is an outhouse on site, next to the parking lot.
