PVBC Meeting Minutes: January 6, 2026

Myrlene Staten, President, opened the meeting promptly at 7:00 p.m., at the Ivy Creek Natural Area Education Building, with 22 people in attendance. Happy New Year and Welcome!
Christmas Bird Count Update
Guy or Jenny will present about this at a later meeting.
Request for First Saturday Bird Walk Support
Leigh Surdukowksi asked members in attendance to consider signing up for the remaining 2026 First Saturday Bird Walk volunteer oppturnities which include leading or assisting with monthly bird walks.
Membership Update
Sally Tucker shared that PVBC continues to have 218 active members.
Upcoming Field Trips
Field Trip at Dutch Gap on Sunday, January 18th, at noon. Meet at the main parking area for the Henricus Historical Park at 341 Henricus Park Road, Chester, VA 23836. Becky Fales will lead this trip.
First Saturday Bird Walk at Ivy Creek Natural Area, on Saturday, February 7th, at 7:30 a.m. Meet in the main parking lot at 1780 Earlysville Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
Upcoming PVBC 40th Anniversary on February 4, 2026
40 years since founding of the Club. Plan is to have catered dinner with potluck desserts. Then, a panel of members who helped start and support the Club in its beginnings will speak. If there is time, we will play a bird trivia game!
Please RSVP for this meeting/celebration so the proper amount of food can be ordered. Look for the sign-up link via email, FaceBook and/or on the Club’s website.

Program Chair, Joanna Vondrasek, introduced Sergio Harding, who shared News/Updates on the Virginia Second Breeding Bird Atlas.
After Mr. Harding’s presentation, the meeting was adjourned.
The Club meets next on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., to celebrate its 40th Anniversary at the Ivy Creek Natural Area Education Building, in person.
