PVBC is promoting a local, independently-organized volunteer effort to survey bird strikes in downtown Charlottesville.
“Volunteers are conducting a pilot program monitoring bird window strikes in Charlottesville, and we could use your help!
This will involve walking around a few buildings known to cause bird strikes, documenting any dead birds, and, for those comfortable doing so, rescuing any injured birds. We also welcome additional volunteers willing to transport injured birds to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. Data on dead and injured birds will be collected and used for future advocacy to reduce window strikes.
Monitoring for the spring migration season will begin around March 15 and continue through May 31. If you’re interested in participating in any capacity, please contact Tyler Demetriou at [email protected] by Friday, March 6. Tyler will host a virtual information and training session for those interested.”
