Summary: Drawing on transdisciplinary science and personal anecdotes from bird watchers of note, Dr. Jamie K. Reaser introduces how bird watching influences human cognition and sense of belonging. She explores the question, “How does bird watching help shape the human animal and our place in ecological systems?”
Speaker bio: Dr. Jamie K. Reaser has worked in over 70 countries as a transdisciplinary scientist, policy analyst, and international negotiator focused on the human dimensions of conservation. She is also an award-winning author writing at the interface of Nature and human nature. Her first book, co-authored with Dr. Russell Greenberg in 1995, was Bring Back the Birds: What You Can Do to Save Threatened Species. She is co-founder of International [World] Migratory Bird Day and continues to serve on the WMBD advisory committee. To celebrate WMBD 30th anniversary, she co-edited (with Dr. J. Drew Lanham) Dawn Songs: A Field Guide to the Poetics of Migration. She lives in Schuyler at the margins of the Blue Ridge foothills and Rockfish River.
