Field Trip Leader: Maya Proulx, Lisa Anderson
Join Lisa Anderson to explore Castle Rock Farm in western Albemarle County. The property features fields, pastures, streams and woodlands that host a diversity of warblers, raptors and woodpeckers, among other birds.
- This trip is free and open to all.
- Meet at 2080 Castle Rock Road, Afton, VA 22920.
- Participants should be prepared for a walk of 1–1.5 miles that includes some hills. We will walk on gravel driveways and grassy/wooded trails. Depending on bird activity, there is the potential to walk along recently cleared land that could be muddy if we have had recent rain. Sturdy shoes/boots are recommended.
- Carpooling is encouraged.
- Restrooms are available.
- If weather is poor (heavy rain/thunderstorms), the field trip will be rescheduled to Sunday, May 3.
Directions upon arrival:
- This is a working farm, and you may encounter people in utility vehicles or leading horses as well as domestic animals such as cats as you follow the driveway. Please be alert and do not exceed 10 mph on the driveway.
- Enter the driveway and follow it straight forward, passing several pastures, until you come to a small gray house on the left with a parking area and outbuildings nearby. Park in any open space in the parking area or follow the sign to park on a grassy area just beyond the small gray house.
